From time to time the Smith Family enjoys leaving the familiar and immersing into the unfamiliar. Such an experience expands our understanding of ourselves and others. In 2010 we followed the Bronzan's to a foreign land with a foreign culture and a foreign language. We invited you to share our journey.
8 Seaside Salsa
Our return to Opatija was much simpler on the Autobahn but parking was not. I dropped my party at the hotel entrance and grabbed a metered-space a few blocks away. When I returned, Petey and Donna were engaged in Salsa dancing lessons sponsored by our Activity Director Marjana and her friend Ana. The four where having a great time stepping to Gloria Stefan’s, “Listen to the Rhythm.” Needing a male to qualify their activity, I joined in with both of my left feet. We had a ball. Young Marjana and Ana were a joy to converse with. Donna and Petey engaged them beyond their lesson. They learned about the girls’ ambitions and fresh hope for Croatia. Marjana dreams of owning a travel business. Donna dreams of being the English guide in Marjana’s travel business. Donna’s fluid pronunciation of Croatian words, her creativity and engaging storytelling skills were be a perfect match for that “after retirement” career.
